2. Fill out the fields according to your new home wish list

Are you looking for a home with a certain number of bedrooms or bathrooms? Or do you need a certain acreage? Whatever your wish list looks like, you can use the form to narrow down results that match your needs.

Simply go through and fill out any information that’s on your wish list, whether that pertains to lot size, home size, property type, or home price.

3. Select “mountain view” as one of your must-haves

Now for the most important step: Select “mountain view” on the MLS search feature. Interested in a lake or creek view, too? Go ahead and select that, too! This feature allows you to pick exactly what you want to see when you look out the windows of your new home.

4. Browse the results and find a home that draws your eye

Whether you filtered your search to meet your exact requirements or you simply clicked the link to see all homes with mountain views, take a look at the options and take note of any that stand out.

5. Read through the property descriptions and view pictures of the homes

Friday Night: Check into Your Mountain Cabin

Saturday Morning & Afternoon: Explore the Waterfalls

North Georgia is renowned for its wide variety of waterfalls all around the area. Some of them require long, tiring hikes while others can be viewed after a quick stroll. After you’ve had a bite of breakfast on Saturday morning, it’s time to get out and explore.

Hop in the car and drive to Fall Branch Falls , just 20 minutes away from downtown Blue Ridge. You’ll drive through winding roads and beautiful landscapes before parking and walking just 0.5 miles to the falls. After you’ve strolled along the trail and seen the beautiful crashing water, it’s time to hop back in the car and head to the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge , about 40 minutes away.

There, you can catch amazing river views, cross the bridge (if you’re daring enough!), and spend the rest of your afternoon exploring Chattahoochee National Forest.

Saturday Night: Treat Yourself to Delicious Bites

After you’ve had your fun viewing the waterfalls, crossing the swinging bridge, and seeing what the forest and mountains have to offer, there’s no doubt that you’ll have worked up an appetite. If you were intrigued by more than one of our restaurant suggestions for Friday night, you could head back to Blue Ridge and try one out.

If you’re looking to see a bit more of the area, drive northeast toward Blairsville, Georgia. You’ll pass through completely different — but equally beautiful roads — and see the forest from a different angle before arriving in the quaint town of Blairsville.

If you’re looking for filling food and a unique atmosphere, try out Michaelee’s Italian Life Caffe , which is just across the street from the Union County Courthouse. Not in the mood for Italian? There’s no better way to spend a Sunday morning than by sipping on a coffee drink crafted especially for you. Once you’ve rolled out of bed, head down to Das Kaffee Haus (The Coffee House) on Main Street.

Whether you like your coffee strong and black or unique and sweet, their extensive menu will have something for you. Their Facebook page is filled with positive reviews from people with all kinds of tastes, and they all agree on one thing: this coffee shop is one of a kind.

Sunday Afternoon: Take It Easy in Downtown Blue Ridge

By Sunday afternoon, you’ve stayed in a mountain retreat cabin, explored the local waterfalls and trails, popped into Blairsville, and sipped on some heavenly coffee. Depending on the length of your drive to get back home, you’ll have a few hours to spare.

8 Spectacular Waterfalls in the North Georgia Mountains

If you’re thinking about visiting or moving to the North Georgia Mountains, there’s no doubt that you’ve heard about the many waterfalls the area has to offer. With more than a dozen waterfalls within 30 miles of Blue Ridge and more than 100 waterfalls spanning across the mountains, there is a waterfall trail for everyone.

We’ve gathered information on eight of the most remarkable waterfalls in the area, with hikes ranging from 0.4-mile strolls to 4-mile intense treks. Read all about them below.

Amicalola Falls

Distance: 2.1 miles
Parking: $5 per car
Location: Dawson County

New Paragraph

Coming in at 729 feet tall, Amicalola Falls is the highest waterfall in Georgia. It’s one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia, so you can bet on crowds — especially on the weekends — but you can beat the rush if you hike the trail early on a weekday. There are two ways to view the falls: by hiking the 1-mile trail up a series of wooden stairs or by walking along the 0.3-mile trail to an observation deck. Along both accesses, you’ll find trucks and cars that toppled down the mountain, making this hike one you won’t soon forget.’

Anna Ruby Falls

Distance: 0.4 miles
Parking: $3 per car
Location: White County

If you’re looking for a shorter hike, the trail to Anna Ruby Falls has got you covered. As you hike along the trail, you’ll cross a creek and see a glimpse of the falls before making it to the observation deck. The Anna Ruby Falls are actually two waterfalls, one 153-feet tall and the other 50-feet tall, both of which you can see from the observation deck. The view around the waterfalls isn’t bad either, with vibrant trees surrounding the entire area.

DeSoto Falls

Distance: 2.2 miles
Parking: $3 per car
Location: Lumpkin County

With distinct upper and lower sections, the 45-foot tall DeSoto Falls pack a ton of great views in a relatively short 2-mile hike. After you begin your hike, you’ll come to a fork in the trail, with the left side leading you to the lower falls and the right side taking you to the upper falls. On both trails, you’ll be surrounded by green and shade, and you’ll hear the rushing water from the creeks everywhere you go.

Dukes Creek Falls

Distance: 4 miles
Parking: $4 per car
Location: White County

The trail to Dukes Creek Falls is one of the most relaxing on our list, with wide paths free of tree roots and jagged rocks. Though the full walk is 4 miles roundtrip, the best view of the falls is found after a 1-mile hike to the gorge. You’ll find several smaller falls on the way and, after you cross the wooden boardwalk, you’ll see the 150-foot tall Dukes Creek Falls.

Fall Branch Falls

Distance: 0.5 miles
Parking: Free
Location: Gilmer County

The trail to Minnehaha Falls is one of the most popular in the North Georgia Mountains. Its short distance and level trail make it a fantastic choice for families, seniors, and kids. After a 0.4-mile trek, you’ll see a 10-foot tall waterfall that’s just a preview of the 60-foot tall Minnehaha Falls just 0.2 miles beyond. If you visit in the late spring/early summer, you can catch the rhododendron in bloom.

Raven Cliff Falls

Distance: 4.9 miles
Parking: Free
Location: White County

The hike to the main waterfall will give you phenomenal views of several smaller waterfalls and rapids along the way. The trail’s flat path is one of the easier on the list, but do watch your step for large tree roots along the way. When the trail ends, you’ll be at the breathtaking Raven Cliff Falls with the option to take a steep incline up or relax by the lower falls. 1. Get that warm, fuzzy feeling at Mercier Orchards

Georgia is famous for its peaches, and summer is prime time for the fuzzy fruit. You can pick your own at one of the many peach orchards in North Georgia, including Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge and B.J. Reece Orchards and R & A Orchards in Ellijay. If picking your own isn’t your thing, you can find fresh peaches all summer long at roadside stands and farmer’s markets. Use them to make a perfectly gooey cobbler, or stir them up into a delicious summer cocktail.

2. Go Chasing Waterfalls in Blue Ridge

The North Georgia Mountains have one of the highest rainfall rates in the United States, behind Oregon and Washington. This means the hundreds of waterfalls in the area still flow beautifully well into the summer months.

3. Have a Toccoa River Adventure

One of the best ways to enjoy the many rivers and streams in North Georgia is to go river tubing. Tubing is a safer option for families with children who are too young for whitewater rafting, and many tubing companies in the area supply their own tubes and life vests. Shallowford Bridge Tubing in Blue Ridge offers a lazy float down the Toccoa River, or you can explore the Coosawattee River with Coosawattee River Tubing Company in Ellijay.

4. Go Fishing on Nottely Lake

For those who want to be near the water but not in it, summer is the time to venture into North Georgia’s abundant fishing grounds. You can find plenty of bass and trout in Nottely Lake, near Blairsville, or Lake Chatuge, near Hiawassee. Blairsville Sorghum Festival

This festival celebrates Appalachia’s legendary sugar source: sorghum. Join the live syrup-making demonstration, then sop up the product of your hard work at the biscuit-eating contest. In between are live music performances and competitive games like pole climbing, rock throwing, and horseshoe throwing, and the day ends with an old-fashioned square dance in the middle school gym.

This unique event celebrates the discovery of gold in Dahlonega way back in 1828. The area is especially popular with tourists, who visit year-round for the area’s many festivals, lakes, hiking trails, and more. But with so much natural beauty around, some of the area’s best attractions can go unnoticed. If you’re planning a trip to North Georgia soon, or just want to find something new to do in your hometown, here are some must-see attractions that we highly recommend.

1. Toccoa River Swinging Bridge near Blue Ridge

One of the most well known attractions in North Georgia is the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge. Located about 48 minutes from the town of Blue Ridge, this 270-foot-long suspension bridge is the longest swinging bridge east of the Mississippi. You can access the bridge via a short (less than half a mile) hike along the Benton MacKaye Trail, which shares a trailhead with the Georgia section of the Appalachian trail at Springer Mountain (spoiler alert: see Number 8 on this list).

2. Blue Ridge Scenic Railway in Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway (BRSR) is one of the last remnants of the days when trains were the only option if you wanted to travel long distances quickly, though now the line exists only for tourism. The 4-hour route starts in Blue Ridge and travels an hour north along the Toccoa River to McCaysville, Georgia. After a two-hour layover, during which passengers can explore the town, shop, or eat lunch, the train turns around and makes its way back south to Blue Ridge.

3. Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden in Hiawassee

The Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden is one of the most breathtaking places to visit in North Georgia. This botanical garden is perched on the edge of sparkling Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee and features 1,100 different plants, including magnolias, dogwoods, wildflowers, and more than 400 varieties of rhododendron. General entrance is free, or you can take a guided golf cart tour for $5/person. And because the garden is a non-profit organization, you can even write the tour off on your taxes.

4. Consolidated Gold Mines in Dahlonega

Did you know that North Georgia was the site of the first major gold rush in the U.S.? Gold was discovered in Dahlonega in 1828, a full 20 years before the better known California Gold Rush. Today, you can have the chance to strike it rich at the Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega. The mine is the largest hard rock gold mine east of the Mississippi, and offers guided underground tours and gold and gemstone panning.

5. Wineries and Vineyards in North Georgia

North Georgia is also home to a surprisingly robust wine industry. There are more than 30 local wineries in the area, all of which offer their own special vintages. Plan a visit to the one closest to you. Enjoy your visit, but please, don’t’ drink and drive.

6. Fall Branch Falls Near Ellijay

Fall Branch Falls is one of the prettiest waterfalls in North Georgia. It’s known for its double cascade and its accessibility — it’s about a quarter mile from the trailhead, making it a half-mile round trip. 7. Scenic horseback rides in Blue Ridge

What better way to take in the North Georgia scenery than from the back of a horse? The area has several horseback tour companies that offer rides for any experience level, from beginner to expert. Our favorite is Adventure Trail Rides , which offers trail rides at two different difficulties and horses that are great with families and children.

8. The Head of the Appalachian Trail near Ellijay

The Appalachian Trail is one of the most well-known hiking trails in the entire U.S. The trail spans more than 2,000 miles, the first (or last) 78.6 of which stretch through North Georgia. You can find the southernmost blaze of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, which is accessible via an 8.5-mile (15 miles round trip) approach trail.

9. Historic Union County Courthouse in Blairsville

Blairsville is home to the oldest working courthouse in the state of Georgia. It was built in 1899, but fell into disrepair in the 1920s. In the 1970s, the building was condemned and nearly demolished, but was saved by the Union County Historical Society . Now restored, the building is home to offices and meeting rooms on its second floor. The first floor is home to the Old Courthouse Museum, which gives visitors a glimpse of the North Georgia settlers’ lives.

10. Bell Mountain in Hiawassee

Bell Mountain is a unique area attraction that’s also a bit controversial — it’s the site of a failed mining attempt from the 1960s, which left the top of the mountain disfigured. Later, the mountain became a haven for off-roaders and hikers, but lately has become riddled with graffiti and vandalism. Spray paint aside, the peak offers stunning panoramic views of Lake Chatuge, Hiawassee, and the surrounding area, and is easily accessible by way of newly constructed stairs.

11. Zipline through the Blue Ridge Mountains

If the horseback rides sounded appealing to you but you crave a little more adventure, than a zipline tour of the North Georgia forests might be right up your alley. Several adventure companies in the area offer zipline courses that zipzag through a variety of scenery — you can whiz through the Georgia hardwoods, breeze through meadows, and dip across creeks and rivers.
