Geographic Location:

Gilmer County is located in the Northwest Georgia Mountains and encompasses 439 square miles. It is bordered by Fannin, Gordon, Murray, Dawson, and Pickens Counties.  Gilmer County is 80 miles north of Atlanta and 75 miles southeast of Chattanooga, Tennessee .

Regular commission meeting days are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.  Commissioners serve terms of 4 years and are elected at large.  Electorate chosses full-time chairmen ACCG District 1.

Facts:  2000 population 28,000.  Population rank 68.   Area 432 Sq. miles.  Total public road mileage 523.  Gilmer County is in the 51st Senatorial District, the 7th State House District and the 10th U.S. Congressional District.
